A pet dog attacks a crocodile, but the dog defends himself.BLACK

A second crocodile has been sighted at a popular fishing spot about 15 kilometers from Cairns’ CBD — days after a family dog was reportedly snatched from the riverbank “in one bite”.

The Benn family from the city’s western suburbs said a crocodile took their labrador named Indie at Barron River on Wednesday morning.

“Indie was on the banks of the bridge there and she was looking at my wife and out jumped this monster crocodile … and took Indie in one bite,” Alan Benn said.

Mr Benn said the incident, witnessed by his adult daughter, happened near the lower Kamerunga footbridge in a suburban area.

He said it was a popular walking and fishing spot and the family regularly visited it with their dogs.

Indie, one of three dogs owned by the family being walked by Ms Baxter’s mother at the time of the incident, was taken from a concrete slab located directly next to the footbridge. On this spot, fishermen regularly unhook caught fish.

‘It must have learned that’s where a lot of people and food are,’ Ms Baxter told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I’m lucky I wasn’t walking her with my two kids because we all would’ve been right there with her.’

The family erected a sign nearby warning others in the community of the incident, saying ‘Will a kid be next?’.

‘This isn’t a rural area, it is between two suburbs and the only path for children to ride their bikes over to get to and from school,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘We just don’t want this to happen to a kid.’
