Watch as US Air Force B-1B Lancers perform a vital Bomber Task Force Mission over Eastern Europe. Power in motion.

U.S. Air Force B-1B bombers from Dyess Air Force Base, Texas currently deployed to RAF Fairford, United Kingdom, undertook a comprehensive Bomber Task Force mission, collaborating closely with fighter jets from NATO Allies Czech Republic and Hungary over eastern Europe October 26, 2023. The aircraft also conducted a flight over Mihail Kogalniceanu “MK” Airbase Romania signifying unwavering support. The flyby stands as a powerful demonstration of the shared values and mutual alliance, contributing to the reinforcement of NATO’s unity. The B-1 Lancers successfully carried out the long-planned mission showcasing the expansive global capabilities of these aircraft.

“Today’s Bomber Task Force mission serves as another testament to our unwavering dedication to Allies and partners, showcasing our collective capacity to strategize, execute, and synchronize seamlessly together.,” said Gen. James Hecker commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Air Forces in Africa and NATO Allied Air Command.

The Rockwell B-1 Lancer[b] is a supersonic variable-sweep wing, heavy bomber used by the United States Air Force. It has been nicknamed the “Bone” (from “B-One”). It is one of three strategic bombers serving in the U.S. Air Force fleet along with the B-2 Spirit and the B-52 Stratofortress as of 2023. This version had a top speed of Mach 2.2 at high altitude and the ability to fly for long distances at Mach 0.85 at very low altitudes. The combination of the high cost of the aircraft, the introduction of the AGM-86 cruise missile that flew the same basic speed and distance, and early work on the B-2 stealth bomber reduced the need for the B-1.

Bomber Task Force (BTF) is a strategic mission that has been undertaken by the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) of the United States Air Force (USAF) since 2018 to help develop the ability to operate from unfamiliar locations and integrate with allies and partner nations. Bomber Task force missions showcase the U.S. capability to efficiently and lead and oversee its bomber fleet for global missions, further solidifying the commitment to both NATO and U.S. National Defense Strategy. Collaborative mission with NATO countries, highlight the collective unity of the Alliance, while underscoring their commitment to maintain peace in the region.
