On July 18th, a calf was born with two heads in Macaúbas, a city in the southwest of Bahia. Unfortunately, the animal lived for only four days, dying on July 21st. The family who owned the calf, which only had a few cattle, was both intrigued and frightened by the unique creature during its short life.

The unusual case happened in the village of Tapera do Peixe, in the rural area of the municipality of Macaúbas. According to Elidan’s account, during the period in which she was alive, he and his daughter were barely able to get close to the calf because of the protective mother.
The guard revealed that he tried to approach to put the calf to suckle, but that the cow wouldn’t let anyone touch the newborn.

Unfortunately, the animal did not have time to be examined by veterinarians: Elidan was going to take the calf to be attended to when she died, on Thursday.
According to experts heard in a report by G1 , it is normal for animals with genetic anomalies to be delivered without life or to die shortly after birth. The calf was born with two snouts and three eyes : one in the middle and one on each head.

It is possible, according to biologist Tiago Freitas explained to the report , that the pregnancy was originally of identical twins that had developed in malformation.
“Something caused them not to be separated correctly. Hence, we have factors such as consanguinity and the presence of toxic substances as factors of a mutation”, stated Freitas. “Mutation is something natural, it happens, but not always. It is from nature, ”he concluded.
