Revealing Power: The Royal Danish Army ushers in a new era of power and accuracy with the impressive power of the modernized Leopard 2A7 DK Main Battle Tank.

In a momentous occasion at the Dragoon barracks in Holstebro, Denmark, the Royal Danish Army has received the last of its upgraded Leopard 2A7 DK main battle tanks, marking the completion of a significant modernization effort. Tank number 68650, freshly delivered from the renowned German supplier Krauss-Maffei Wegman (KMW), now joins the ranks of Denmark’s formidable armored fleet.

This achievement is the culmination of a journey that began in 2020 when the first four modified Leopard 2A7 DK tanks rolled into the Dragoon Barracks. Since then, KMW has diligently worked on upgrading the remaining 40 tanks, ensuring that the Royal Danish Army possesses a state-of-the-art armored force. The transformation of these tanks, once Leopard 2A5s, into Leopard 2A7s represents a massive upgrade that includes a range of enhancements. Among these improvements are a new and more efficient cannon, advanced communication equipment, enhanced protection, air conditioning for crew comfort, and numerous other enhancements.

The Leopard 2A7 is a formidable third-generation German main battle tank developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegman. With a legacy dating back to the 1970s, it has been continuously improved to maintain its status as one of the world’s premier armored vehicles. The Leopard 2 is not just a German asset; it’s in service with several European countries and various non-European nations, showcasing its global significance. Denmark’s association with the Leopard 2 began in 1998 when the Royal Danish Army received its first tanks from surplus German stocks. These tanks were later upgraded to the 2A5 DK standard in 2004–2006. In 2023, Denmark’s armored fleet consisted of 44 Leopard 2A7 DK main battle tanks, all upgraded with Danish modifications between 2019 and 2022. The Leopard 2A7’s formidable capabilities extend beyond its impressive firepower and advanced technology.

Designed for versatile combat scenarios, it’s adaptable to a wide range of military operations. The upgrade, a collaborative effort with Canada, introduced innovations like a crew-compartment cooling system, a powerful auxiliary power unit, advanced camouflage technology, and an efficient combat management and information system.

Furthermore, the Leopard 2A7’s adaptability for firing HE ammunition and its readiness for additional passive side protection armor make it a versatile asset in the Royal Danish Army’s arsenal. The delivery of the final upgraded Leopard 2A7 DK to the Royal Danish Army represents a significant leap forward in Denmark’s military capabilities. This state-of-the-art tank embodies the country’s commitment to maintaining a robust and modern armored force, equipping its soldiers with the very best equipment available. With these formidable machines at their disposal, the Royal Danish Army is poised to meet the challenges of the modern battlefield with confidence and competence.
